On Thursday, Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ: AMZN) announced that it would open a new fulfillment center in Shelby Township next year. The new center is expected to create 1,000 full-time jobs.
According to the company, the new fulfillment center will be 1 million square feet. For the new, full-time jobs, the company will offer highly competitive compensation. Amazon will also offer 95% tuition reimbursement to the employees, and up to 20 weeks of paid maternity or paternity leave for those who need it. After adding 1,000 new jobs in Shelby Township, Amazon has 3,500 employees in total in Michigan.
This is not the first time for Amazon to expand to Michigan. Since last year, the company announced to build three fulfillment centers in Michigan, and one corporate office in Detroit.
“The state has been a source of exceptional talent for Amazon, and we're proud to be creating great jobs with benefits for Michiganders,” Sanjay Shah, the vice president of North American operations of Amazon, said in the release.
“We look forward to the new tax revenue and the successful reclamation of this former industrial plant,” said Rick Stathakis, the supervisor of Shelby Township.
