Anti-abortion activists in Washington are on the 44th March for Life, ignited by POTUS Donald Trump’s pledge to restrict abortion. Organizers anticipate thousands of supporters to rendezvous at the National Mall for the march. The March for Life is held each year close to the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion back in 1973.
Vice President Mike Pence, a longtime activist of the anti-abortion movement will speak in person at the rally. Pence has signed some of the strictest abortion laws. Activists will march from the Mall to the Supreme Court (1.5 miles).
Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion has been in Trump’s hindsight and the POTUS wishes to overturn and appoint an anti-abortion justice to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Juice Antonin Scalia last year.
Trump also plans to defund Planned Parenthood. In a speech on Thursday, Trump had announced that he reinstated a national policy banning U.S aid to non-governmental organizations abroad that provide or “promote” abortion.
