We are witnessing a space race at full thrust, not between governments and nations as it was in the past, but between two private companies right here in the Unite States. SpaceX, under the leadership of Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, and Blue Origin, lead by Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos. On Monday Bezos has unveiled the name and design of Blue Origin’s future rocket.
The rocket, New Glenn, will be able to transport payloads and people into orbit around Earth.
Blue Origin has kept information regarding the rockets in secret for years, and has decided that enough progress has been made. Jeff Bezos said in an email, “We believe "slow is smooth and smooth is fast." In the long run, deliberate and methodical wins the day, and you do things quickest by never skipping steps. This step-by-step approach is a powerful enabler of boldness and a critical ingredient in achieving the audacious. We're excited to give you a preview of our next step. One we've been working on for four years.”
The news came shortly after SpaceX failed launch of the Falcon 9 rocket, which was destroyed in an explosion. The reason for the explosion is currently being investigated.
