This is the million dollar question that is doing the rounds across the country right now. An NBC News report claimed that the Secretary of State had indeed described the President with this term during a Pentagon meeting. Even more surprisingly, it appears that the President himself was quite well aware of the fact that he had been called a moron well before the news made it out to the public. Sources tell us that he may not have been aware that it was Tillerson who gave him the title though. Needless to say, Trump was not present at the particular Pentagon meeting where the term was dropped.
Tillerson says he has 'close relationship'
Scrambling to cover up the mess, Rex Tillerson issued a statement on Wednesday that he has a close relationship with the president. He also went on to say that he has described Trump as 'smart' but he did not respond to queries about whether he had also described him as a 'moron'. Taking an aggressive stance, he simply brushed off the query saying that he did not wish to answer questions that were aimed at 'dividing' the administration.
Trump tweets about 'fake news'
Meanwhile, President Trump took to his customary platform to lash out at what he claimed was the 'fake news' about Tillerson calling him a moron. While Tillerson himself never actually denied that he did so, Trump posted on his Twitter account that the reporting by NBC News had been refuted by him. He also wanted the 'fake news' media to apologize to America for the misplaced fact. The President also reiterated his confidence in his Secretary of State.
Meanwhile, a close confidant from within the White House has said that the President is quite unhappy with the turn of events that led to the news about the 'moron' comment leak out to the media. The source also pointed out that Trump and Tillerson do not share a very good camaraderie and their relationship can at best be described as 'uneasy'. However, Tillerson has not been asked to go simply because of the many high profile exits that have marred the administration recently. Over a mere eight months in the office, the Trump administration has seen quite a few top officials leave their posts and this has not made the administration look very good in the public's eyes.
