Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) Chief Operation Officer Sheryl Sandberg has donated over $100 million to the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Fund. Sandberg’s Family fund consists of 880,000 Class “A” shares of Facebook. The donation was made on November 21st. The donor-advised fund was renamed after Sandberg’s husband passed away last year.
Mark Zuckerberg had promised to donate over $3 billion towards a plan to “cure, prevent or manage” disease. Back in December 2015, Zuckberg pledged that he and his wife would donate 99 percent of their company shares to charity.
Sandberg’s donation will be utilized by her nonprofit organization called LeanIn.Org. The organization is focused on women’s empowerment, including OptionB.org, an organization focused on aiding those that have experienced loss. The $100 million donation will be used to fund both Lean In and Option B.
Sandberg had lost her husband back in 2015 during their vacation in Mexico. While using the treadmill, husband Dave Goldberg had fallen and hit his head. Upon being rushed to the Hospital Sand Javier in Nuevo Vallarta, he was declared dead.
