Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) is currently in talks with Hollywood studios about producing scripted original programming by the end of this summer, according to the Wall St. Journal.
The social media company has been reported to have met with Hollywood talent agencies and is willing to commit nearly $3 million per episode. The program is targeting audiences from age 13 to 34, with a focus on the 17 to 30 range. A romantic drama, “Strangers,” and a game show, “Last State Standing,” have already been lined up.
Nick Grudin, Facebook's vice president for media partnerships said, "We're focused on episodic shows and helping all our partners understand what works across different verticals and topics.” He added that the company is also willing to share its viewer dataship with Hollywood studios.
Facebook is expected to stray away the blueprint set forth by Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), meaning episodes will be released weekly, rather than dropping a whole season at a time.
