With the introduction of mobile apps, it seems that the market for software development is still growing exponentially. Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) reported that its App Store generated $20 billion for software developers in 2016, which is a 40% increase from the money generated from the App Store in 2015. Customers spent up to $240 million on apps and in-app purchases on New Year’s Day alone.
Nintendo is making the most from this information. The App Store sales were over $3 billion in December alone with the launch of Nintendo’s Super Mario Run – a game app that was downloaded more than 40 million times within the first four days of its release. Pokemon Go was the most downloaded app for the whole year.
Although Super Mario Run had a $10 price tag, Pokemon Go grossed much more. The popularity grew within days, Pokemon Go was reportedly most downloaded app within the first week of release.
