Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has several films and shows that can be watched offline. The internet television network has introduced its new “download” feature where popular shows like “Orange is the New Black, Narcos and Stranger Things” are available for download.
This new option is to focus on worldwide users can access some of their favorite shows while on airplanes or traveling the subway, basically anywhere that may not have a stable Wi-Fi connection. Downloading the content before-hand will ensure you will be able to watch it at your leisure even without an internet connection.
CNBC had an interview with Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix, Ted had implied at a “new offline mode” to aid consumers that did not have access to high speed internet. Sarandos previously said, “Now as we’ve launched in more territories … They all have different levels of broadband speeds and Wi-Fi access. So in those countries they have adapted their behaviors to be much more of a downloading culture. So in those emerging territories it starts to become a little more interesting. We still think for the developed world our thesis has been true but I think as we get into more and more (of the) undeveloped world and developing countries that we want to find alternatives for people to use Netflix easily.”
