Dean Heller has been a part of Nevada's political system for many years. He started at the bottom and worked his way up to being Senator in May of 2011. He has held many political offices including being a congressional Representative in the Second Congressional District of Nevada, Secretary of State and being a part of the Nevada State Assembly with representation of Carson City.
Since becoming a Senator, Heller has made small government, wasteful spending and a balanced budget his goal. He has been fighting for fiscal responsibility since he began serving in Washington. Voting against tax increase and standing up against unnecessary spending has also been his strong suit. In fact, Heller was the only member of the Nevada delegation to vote against helping Wall Street by bailing them out. He strongly believes in policies that will help the government financially recover and produce an environment where businesses will be able to grow and become established.
Right now, Heller is a member of the Energy and National Resources Committee, Special Committee on Aging and others as well. These special committees are designed for voices to be heard, and Heller is making his concerns known. He can address the raise in gas prices, transportation for Nevada and anything else that he feels is hindering his home state.
His leadership for Nevada has proved to be strong by the steps he has taken to better the state as a whole. Issues include mining, public lands access and wildfire prevention. He has defended private property rights and the promotion of balances public land. He has been successful in moving public lands legislation. This benefits the local communities throughout the state.
With all the other issues Heller has fought for, he still makes time to fight for responsibility with Medicare and Social Security. He is a member of the Senate Aging Committee, and these issues hold a special place in the group. Being a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Heller can advocate for tax reform in order to help the middle class keep more of their money.
He was raised, and graduated high school in Carson City, Nevada. He is one of six children born to his parents. After high school, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. His degree focuses in finance, and he has worked as a stockbroker, and also held a job at the Pacific Stock Exchange. He has been married for over 25 years, and has four children with his wife, Lynne. |
