Senator Hoeven

Senator Hoeven was born in Bismark, North Dakota. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1979, and then pursued a master's degree from Northwestern University in 1981. His start in politics began when he served as executive vice president of First Midwestern Bank. Hoeven's position lasted from 1986 through 1993. During his time as executive vice president, he helped with civil service, community service, and took part in assisting with economic development activities. After leaving First Midwestern Bank in 1993, Hoeven became president and CEO of the Bank of North Dakota. During his seven years in that position, the bank's worth grew from $900 million to $1.6 billion.

In 2001, Hoeven was elected as the Governor of North Dakota. During his position as Governor, he worked to brighten the future of North Dakota by focusing on key points. Those points touched on education, economy, and development. While Hoeven was in office, he created 50,000 new jobs, and helped to expand the economy. The wages of people living in North Dakota are rising faster than the national average, and the state has led the nation in export growth. Also in 2001, he established EmPower ND. It is a multi-resource energy program. Since North Dakota is one of the largest exporting and energy producing states, Hoeven has worked to make things more efficient. He promotes renewable energy resources like wind, ethanol, and biodiesel.

The Centers of Excellence were just one of the initiatives that Hoeven put forth. The program was designed to create better, and higher paying jobs for the people of North Dakota. It has resulted in thousands of new jobs and impacted the economy by $400 million.

After serving as Governor of North Dakota for 10 years, Hoeven was elected into the Senate in 2011. He has worked on Senate committees, including the Senate Energy Committee. Right now, he is working to implement the same types of plans he used to further things in North Dakota on a national level. Hoeven's goals are to create a place where job growth is possible, develop a national energy policy where both renewable and traditional fuels are reducing the national budget, and fight the national debt. He believes that implementing a common sense approach that empowers the people will be the best approach in rebuilding the economy.

Hoeven is currently married to his wife, Mical. They have two children together, one boy and one girl.
