Johnny Isakson graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966. After graduating, he served eight years in the Georgia National Air Guard. His business career began in 1967 while he was still serving his state. He opened a family owned real estate office, Northside Realty. It was the first of its kind in Cobb County. He served as President of the company for 20 years. During his time as President, the company grew exponentially and became one of the largest in America.
Isakson began his career in politics in 1974. He served 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and two years as the Chairman of Georgia's Board of Education. In 1999, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives where he served three terms. Isakson was elected to the United States Senate in 2004, and re-elected in 2010.
Washington is the perfect place for a man like Isakson. He has plenty of business knowledge and citizen knowledge to draw from. When the mortgage crisis hit in 2008, he was there to offer solutions in order to reduce the inventory of foreclosed homes and restore the housing market. His background in real estate helped him to make educated and knowledgeable suggestions on behalf of the American people. In addition to the mortgage crisis, Isakson helped to create the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. It was styled after the 9-11 Commission in order to investigate the near collapse of the American banking system.
Isakson was one of the original authors of the “No Child Left Behind Act.” It is one of the most significant improvements to the education system. This act allows higher standards to be desired for the children. Schools that receive federal funding must score at a certain level in order to continue receiving the money.
The issues he takes to heart are some that many Americans also have concerns with. He has worked to strengthen the Armed Forces. He is committed to supporting the veterans, and the men and women currently fighting to protect our country. Isakson continues to push immigration reform by bringing awareness to the issues with securing the border. He believes in making the country more green, and that includes using alternative energy resources and more conservation.
Isakson lives with his wife, Dianne, in Marietta, Georgia. Together they have three children and nine grandchildren. The Isaksons are active in their church, where the Senator taught sixth grade for 30 years. |
