A recent survey carried out by a tech research and consultant group in Texas revealed an alarming fact of data leaks. A study has just deduced that nearly 191 million Americans have their vital and intimate data available online easily to anyone that may choose to exploit them and the situation. The study has proven shocking results at the number of people that have their information and vital data compromised. The data leak has occurred for people across all 50 states in the United States of America.
Voting information such as names, addresses, voting trends, and birth dates are easily available. The issue has been given serious consideration especially with the 2016 presidential election right around the corner. The study goes on to delineate that all the information that is accessed may not necessarily be safeguarded by anyone in the government, and is free and extremely easy for anyone with sinister intent. The researcher mentioned that the entire data took just a day to download and access. The voter records have been a cherished data by many parties, however, this would malign the cause of a democracy, and the vulnerability that such information currently faces has caught the attention of the nation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation evaded the media and was not available for any comment. Some reports state that the investigative authorities are currently looking into the matter, in order to locate and fix the source of the voter data leak. Many experts however, believe that it is an uphill battle, as material once released into the internet is incredibly difficult to trace. Many privacy activists have stood up against the ill treatment of private data. Experts state that curbing the leak of data is an especially difficult task when various states have different limits and norms for privacy laws on voter data privacy.
The state of California, is one amongst many states that allows political parties to access general information and trends of voters. However, the access is limited and restricted. Also, the law states that no personal information will be made available to anyone, and absolutely no personal information would be made available outside the United States. Privacy activists are enraged about the callous handling of such sensitive information by the government. Many organizations are trying to lobby for the right to privacy of a person even when it comes to political affiliations or inclinations.
