Playboy Mansion is no longer owned by Hugh Hefner. Playboy Enterprises state that it will be sold to a neighbor. Playboy Enterprises put up the property up for sale earlier this year as part of the magazine’s restructuring. The mansion was brought by Twinkies-maker Hostess Brands owner 32-year-old Daren Metropoulos. Metropoulos is the son of Greek American billionaire, Dean Metropoulos, principal at private equity firm Metropoulos & Co. The house was sold for $200 million. According to The Guardian, Playboy’s chief executive Scott Flanders said that “The Playboy mansion has been a creative center for Hef as his residence and workplace for the past 40 years, as it will continue to be if the property is sold,” Flanders said.
Metropoulos has agreed to let 90-year-old Hefner live in the house for the rest of his life. Metropoulos’s son Daren Metropoulos wants the mansion. “He wants to bring the [5.3-acre Beverly Hills-area] property back to the original history of the location,” Dean Metropoulos said. “Totally different” from the way Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has operated the estate since 1971, when he acquired what became the Playboy Mansion. According to the New York Post, Daren Metropoulos currently lives next door to the mansion and wants to reconnect the estates, which originally made the Wolfskill Ranch.
According to the The Wall Street Journal, Daren Metropoulos brought the house next to the Playboy mansion from Hefner back in 2009 for $18 million.
According to The Guardian, “We can confirm that the Playboy Mansion is in escrow with Daren Metropoulos as the buyer,” a Playboy Enterprises spokesman told the Guardian. “Due to confidentiality restrictions, we are not able to comment on any specifics, including what contingencies need to be cleared to close the sale.” Metropoulos was at the mansion in 2013 when he and his brother hosted a party with Snoop Dogg where they partied with Hefner and the Playboy bunnies.
The listing for the mansion on The Agency lists it having 12 bedrooms, a catering kitchen, wine cellar, home theater and it’s nearly 20,000 square feet. The mansion sits on five acres of land and also has a zoo license.
