Even as the Independence Day draws close, protestors calling for the impeachment of the presidents have been coming out onto the streets in numbers. The protestors were not limited to one city or one location but in fact, across the U.S. such protests were seen in many parts. They are calling on Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings.
End of presidency signs seen
In a Los Angeles location, the protesters were seen carrying a coffin on which was propped a sign proclaiming the death of the Presidency in 2017. In Austin, things narrowly avoided becoming murky as the protestors clashed at different locations with Trump supporters. In San Francisco, the protestors made it very clear that they wanted the president to be impeached right away. Supporters of the presidents clashed with the protestors in many locations and staunchly defended him, saying that there was no call to ask for impeachment since he has committed no crime.
Rep. Al Green leads the protest in Austin
In Austin, the protestors were spurred on by Rep. Al Green, who has called for the president's impeachment quite a few times since the elections. He stated that the impeachment should be carried out for the President's act of obstructing justice on the House floor in mid- May. In Los Angeles, Rep. Brad Sherman took part in the protests. Sherman has also made no secret about the fact that he wants President Trump to leave the White Office. Last month, Sherman had circulated an article of impeachment targeting the president.
Protests result in fight
Outside a Trump hotel in New York, the protestors and Trump supporters clashed, as they did in many places, but here the clash quickly worsened into a verbal dispute. The situation was worse in Philadelphia where the two groups were not satisfied with a verbal argument but got into a physical confrontation. A supporter was attacked outside a bar by two protestors who were later arrested and a third received a citation.
Protests were not limited to the big cities and business hubs and many small towns also joined in to raise their voice against the president and call for his removal from office. At many locations, the protestors met local political leaders to express their views and outline the reasons for their demand. Local activists pointed out that the timing of the protests this close to independence-day is worth noting.
