Sony Corp (NYSE: SNE) has announced that the company is now cooperating with a Japanese robot and autopilot technology maker ZMP, Inc. to manufacture drones. Sony and ZMO will launch a joint venture called Aerosense.

Sony’s mission recently has switched as the popular high tech company wants to focus on adding high-end sensors onto their devices. There is high demand for Sony’s image sensors that are currently being used in Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Samsung smartphones. After loses form the VAIO PC business and the smartphone segment, focus on sensor technology is one of Sony’s best options for a quick profit.
Drones for the enterprises is already an existing market with some large players in the game, like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). Despite that, Sony’s drones are likely not going to be affected by the competition as long as the functionalities of the drones remain innovative and Sony’s sensor technology comes into play.
