More than half of all Americans believe that President Trump's tax reform proposal will not give them what they want. This was revealed through a survey conducted by CNN that was published on Wednesday. The poll, known as the CNN/ SSRS poll, also indicated that many believe that the tax reform will worsen the situation, not improve it as the President has been trying hard to convince the public.
52% are against the reform
A whopping 52% of those surveyed said that they oppose the tax reform. Only 34% were actually in favor of the proposal. Furthermore, a third of the participants in the survey said that the 'reform' proposal would make things more difficult for them and further worsen the existing situation.
Trump's personal tax returns
Most of the study participants think that the President should release his personal tax returns. This has been a subject of much controversy ever since Trump decided to run for President. The President has not made published tax records yet. An overwhelming majority of 74% of people felt that Trump's tax returns should be made public.
37% of those who participated in the poll felt that the new tax plan will not change anything with respect to their tax burden. 31% feel that the plan will make things worse while 24% feel that it will improve the situation. 38% of those polled thought that the reforms will actually be detrimental to the U.S. because they will escalate the budget deficit. 22% of the respondents had the exact opposite view. The poll also indicated how the President is being viewed by the public in terms of his contribution to the tax reform proposals. Half of the participants felt that his method of handling it is undesirable, showing that the disapproval has increased since the 48% logged in March.
The poll was carried out during the October 12th to 15th period and it involved more than a thousand participants. It revealed that no dramatic difference in numbers can be made out amidst those supporting the tax reform and those opposing it since only slightly over half the populace seems to be having doubts about it. However, looking at party-based support, it is quite clear that Democrats, as a whole, are against the plan. About 81% of the party's members registered their opposition to it while 70% of Republicans said that they approve of the plan.
