Elon Musk’s latest venture, The Boring Company, has become less joke and more reality in recent weeks, and today took another step towards prominence. Although not yet corroborated by government officials, Musk released a Tweet today saying he has “…verbal govt approval for The Boring Company to build an underground NY-Phil-Balt-DC Hyperloop. NY-DC in 29 min.”
Should this come to fruition, a Hyperloop could potentially change the way transportation is seen in America. Elon Musk already has a tunneling operation going on in Los Angeles, where he is working to overcome to overburdened highway system in a bid to make lasting changes to the city. He is also optimistic about juggling both the LA and the NY-DC projects simultaneously, while also hoping to begin his project in Texas.
Possibility of this project really getting off the ground is highlighted by Jared Kushner and his enthusiasm for the project, which aligns very well with his own ideas, which floated up around a month ago from his Office of American Innovation. His aim to dramatically increase economic growth as well as maintain and build American infrastructure and jobs resonates well with Elon Musk’s goals. As more news comes out about this government approval, the picture will be clearer about the future of transportation.
