President-Elect Donald Trump has stated that he does not require daily intelligence briefings. On Fox News Sunday, Trump said, “You Know, I’m, like, a smart person.” “I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years – but eight years. I don’t need that. But I do say, ‘If something should change, let us know.’”
Trump receives one briefing per week while Vice President-elect Mike Pence receives several a week. Although many past presidents have welcomed the daily brief, Trump seems to have no interest in it. Numerous democrats have criticized Trump for his ignorance on key issues. The President-elect has claimed he will receive the briefings when the situation changes but not “the same thing every day, every morning.”
“That’s obviously up to President-elect Trump. But I think he would be well served if he would take those briefing because there’s never enough time to know as much as you need to know any of these jobs,” Trump told “Squawk Box.”
Trump has also said that he does not accept reports that the CIA has concluded that Russia did help him win the election. Trump said in a statement Friday, “These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction,” he said. A group of senators had called for a probe of Russia’s involvement in the election, on Sunday.
