Walmart (NYSE: WMT) is launching a new in stores return service called Mobile Express Returns as the company competes with rivals such as Amazon. Shoppers who purchased items online and need to return can simply log in through the Walmart app which will generate a QR code for the transaction. The items can be returned or exchanged quickly in any physical Walmart store and bulky items can be kept and still get a refund.
This new program is expected to launch in Walmart’s 4,700 U.S. stores by next month as well as reaching to third party sellers on Walmart’s online marketplace by next year. Recently, the company has been launching and testing new ideas to speed up the shopping experience for consumers. Tests include using Uber as well as in store staff to deliver groceries and introducing a smart lock maker in August to bring products directly into shoppers’ homes. Discounts on millions of pick up goods, free two-day shipping on orders over $35, and skipping the queue in stores for pharmacy were launched as well.
