Weight Watchers International Inc. (NYSE:WTW) shares continue to go up after yesterday’s 20 percent jumps as investor and spokeswoman Oprah Winfrey said that she lost 26 pounds using program.
Winfrey posted a tweet of a video about herself Tuesday afternoon saying that she had lost 26 pounds because she ate bread every single day on a Weight Watchers diet. Shares of the company skyrocketed more than 20% from $11.12 to $13.29 after the video was released.
“I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day,” Oprah said in Twitter.
Weight Watchers International is an American company that offers various products and services to assist weight loss and maintenance. According to Bloomberg, Oprah announced her partnership with Weight Watchers in October and said that she would buy 10 percent of the stock and join the board. In late October, she reported that the stake was almost 15 percent, including options.
The company had been struggling in recent years. The shares dropped from $28 to $4 in 2015 before Oprah announced her stakes in the company. Investors are hoping that Oprah can help turn around this situation. This is not the first time Oprah endorsed Weight Watchers. She began endorsing the company since December.
“This is the joy for me,” Winfrey said. “I don’t deny myself bread. I have bread every day.”
Oprah owns 6.4 million shares and 3.5 million stock options of the company. So she made a roughly $19.2 million in Tuesday. What a sweet thing when you lose weight and you make money.
