Altria to Suspend Operations Temporarily at Richmond Manufacturing Center

Altria Group, Inc. (NYSE: MO) reported the temporary suspension of operation at PM USA’s Manufacturing Center in Richmond, Virginia as a precaution upon finding out that an employee tested positive for COVID-19.  The company anticipates the center to suspend for the next two weeks as they continue to monitor the evolving situation. 

“We are committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, their families and the communities where we operate,” said Billy Gifford, Altria’s Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer. “We take the threat of COVID-19 seriously and have been actively implementing plans to minimize business disruptions and their potential impact to our employees, consumers and customers.”

Chief Executive Officer Howard Willard has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.  He has taken medical leave as CFO William Gifford Jr. is taking his place.  “Howard has been out of the office for several days, and we have notified those who were in close contact with Howard and asked them to self-quarantine for 14 days,” the memo said here.
