The Electronic Entertainment Expo is currently being held in Los Angeles, California from June 14-16, 2016. It is an annual convention that is held to video industry insiders such as developers and software companies. Prior to the start of the expo a few companies held press conferences.
On Sunday June 12, 2016 Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA) held their press conference and showed trailers of new games currently in development. EA showed the trailer for Titanfall 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Madden NFL 2017, FIFA 17, FE and Battlefield 1. EA announced three new Star Wars games in development. There will be a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront which doesn’t have a title yet. Game developer Visceral Games (makers of the Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno series) will be making a next-gen Star Wars game set in an open world. Respawn Entertainment is also working on a 3rd person action game set in a new Star Wars era.
Bethesda presented trailers of some of its games currently in production. Attendees saw the trailers for the new Quake Champions, Prey, and Dishonored 2. Bethesda announced DLC for Fallout 4 and Doom.
On Monday June 13, 2016, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) held their press conference. During their press conference they announced their new Xbox One S console and their Project Scorpio. There new Xbox One S which comes in white has an integrated power supply and up to 2TB of hard-drive storage. The new console supports HDR gaming and 4k ultra-HD video streaming capabilities. Their new updated controller features a textured grip and Bluetooth connectivity. The new console will be released in August and will cost $299. Project Scorpio will allow the system to run games in 4k resolution at 60 frames per second. According to Yahoo Sports, Spencer and company have the idea of “gaming beyond generations,” a tagline that seems to imply that the future of gaming lies in semi-annual hardware updates rather than traditional six-to-eight year console life spans. Microsoft showed off a variety of new games such as Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1, Forza Horizons 3, Recore, Final Fantasy XV and much more.
Ubisoft also held its conference on Monday. They announced several new games such as Just Dance 2017, Ghost Recon Wildlands, The Division: Underground and Survival DLC, Eagle Flight, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, For Honor, Trials of the Blood Dragon, Grow Up, Watch Dogs 2, and Steep. Ubisoft announced the sequel to South Park: The Stick of Truth, titled South Park: The Fractured But Whole. This game has the characters of South Park playing as superheroes and they are going through their own version of Civil War.
Sony (NYSE:SNE) had its press conference on Monday too. They announced new games in development and showed the trailers. Sony showed the new gameplay for their next God of War game for the Playstation 4 (PS4). The demo shows an older Kratos and he now has a son. They showed the demos for Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit Becomes Human, Farpoint, Battlefront VR Xwing Mission, Death Stranding, Spider Man, and Skylanders Imaginators. Batman Arkham comes to virtual reality as well as long-awaited Final Fantasy XV. Warner Bros. Interactive is working with game developer Tt Games on the new Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Activision is bringing a remaster edition of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The company is also developing Call of Duty 4: Infinite Warfare. Sony announced the remaster of the three first Crash Bandicoot games which are coming to PS4. No release date has been announced.
Nintendo (TYO:7974) has its conference on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Nintendo showed off gameplay for their new Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They off showed a trailer for the new Metroid Prime Federation Force. Gameplay was revealed for the new Star Fox Zero game. Nintendo also revealed a new Paper Mario and Luigi crossover, showed off Amiibo and a partnership with Skylanders, and revealed Super Mario Maker details.
Square Enix (OTC: SQNXF), held its conference on Tuesday as well. Square showed the trailer of remake of Final Fantasy VII, Kingdom Hearts 3, Deus Ex and a new Star Ocean. They also announced the upcoming Tokyo RPG Factory game project Setsuna. AMD and PC Gamer held its first PC Gaming Show on Tuesday during E3. It was hosted by Sean ‘Day’ Plott was joined by other speakers throughout the show, such as Blizzard Entertainment and Humble Bundle, to make various announcements.
