Energous shares surge over 80% on FCC Certification for Wireless Charging

Energous Corporation (NASDAQ: WATT) shares surged on Wednesday, jumping over 80 percent after the company had announced that it received Federal Communications Commission certification for its wireless charging transmitter.

Energous product, WattUp Mid Field transmitter, sends focused, RF-based power to devices at a distance. Energous says opens a new era of wireless charging and new opportunities.

WattUp can deliver power via radio frequency up to three feet, and is one of the only technology that can do both contact-based and non-contact-based wireless charging. WattUp is also capable of charging multiple devices at once.

“The FCC certification of Energous' power-at-a-distance wireless charging transmitter is a major market milestone,” said Stephen Rizzone, president and CEO of Energous, “Untethered, wire-free charging — such as charging a fitness band even while wearing it — is exactly what consumers have been waiting for. We are now in a position to move our consumer electronics, IoT and smart home customers forward at an accelerated pace."

The company plans to expand upon WattUp in power, distance, efficiency and scale, with applications that could include integration into the bezel of computer monitors, soundbars, smart speakers, TVs, smart lighting, and other electronics in the home, office and much more.

Energous plans to demonstrate the latest WattUp technology at CES 2018 January 9-12 in Las Vegas, NV.

"This ground-breaking technology,” said Martin Cooper, Energous Board of Directors member, “freeing them [users] from ever having to think about charging their devices again."
