Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reported steps taken to secure the integrity of the United States elections by encouraging voting, connecting people to authoritative information and reducing risk of post election confusion.
The social media platform will not accept new political ads a week prior to the election. Posts that claim voters will get COVID-19 of they take part in voting will be removed. A link to authoritative information about coronavirus to posts that may utilize COVID-19 to discourage voting. Informational labels will be attached to content that seek to delegitimize the outcome of the election or discuss the legitimacy of voting methods.
Any candidates or campaigns that attempt to declare victory before the final results are in will be added to a label to their posts that direct people to the official results from Reuters and the National Election Pool.
