Four Prospect Medical Hospitals in Southern California Named Among Top 5% in Nation for Patient Safety

Four Prospect Medical hospitals in Southern California were ranked among
the top 5% in the nation for patient safety by Healthgrades. The
hospitals are Southern California Hospital at Culver City, Southern
California Hospital at Hollywood, Los Angeles Community Hospital and Los
Angeles Community Hospital at Norwalk.

“We are committed to providing quality clinical care in a safe
environment and this external recognition reinforces our dedication to
our patients’ healthcare,” said Don Kreitz, senior vice president of
California Hospitals, Alta Hospitals. “This achievement is significant
to the communities we serve in Los Angeles.”

The 2018 “Patient Safety Excellence Award” is a designation
that recognizes superior performance of hospitals that have prevented
the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications for
patients during hospital stays, according to Healthgrades. The
distinction places these Prospect Medical hospitals among the top 5% of
all acute care hospitals reporting patient safety data for their
excellent performance as evaluated by Healthgrades.

“Our staff and physicians are honored to be recognized among the top 5%
in the nation, and we will continue to reinforce this commitment to our
patients through ongoing training,” Kreitz added. “Nothing is more
important than the safe care of our patients.”

During the 2014-2016 study period, Healthgrades found that patients
treated in hospitals receiving the Patient Safety Excellence Award were,
on average:

“We applaud the hospitals who have received the Healthgrades 2018
Patient Safety Excellence Award,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Healthgrades
chief medical officer. “Their dedication and commitment to providing
safe care creates tangible results for patients.”

If all hospitals achieved the average performance of award recipients
for each of the 13 Patient Safety Indicators evaluated, during the 2014
to 2016 study period, 126,342 patient safety events could have been
avoided.

During the study period, Healthgrades 2018 Patient Safety Excellence
Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety
provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by
objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 13
patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research
and Quality.

In addition to the Patient Safety Excellence Award, these four Prospect
Medical hospitals also were recognized with 14 awards for Five-Star
treatment and care in cardiac, pulmonary, GI, appendectomy, critical
care and orthopedics. For complete list of awards, visit
