Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Maps Offers New Features

Google, Ad-on, Maps, FeaturesWith smartphones today, we do not need a paper map to navigate from point A to point B. Smart technology has put the power of smart navigation in the palm of our hands. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has been the innovator in the field of navigation, yet it still has more to offer to its faithful users.

The Add-ons

Even though the maps feature on Google tells you where to go, there are still times where drivers miss a turn because they do not place themselves in the right lane. Well, now that is set to change when you switch on the turn-by-turn navigation which will offer you the “switch lane” feature. This new feature will tell you which lane to stay in (or move to), so you won’t be surprised by suddenly having to make a left turn, according to Gizmodo.

New filters to the search system for the maps are also going to be a big add-on. Now you can search for restaurants, hotels, bars, and businesses by open hours, rating, price, and other criteria. This isn’t something innovative, but it makes the life of a person traveling a lot easier.

Another feature added to maps is the new options for users without cars. Now you can time your ride properly with the “Depart at” choice that allows you to select the date and time you want to leave. It even offers a “last train home” feature which allows you to see the last possible option to catch the train. Maps now also has integrated data from Uber, which will compare the ride with transit and walking directions, and if you choose the Uber option, it will jump you right over to the Uber app (if it is installed).
