Kohl’s partners up with Amazon for new Amazon Smart Home experience

Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE: KSS) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) partner up as they announce that a new Amazon Smart Home experience will be available in 10 select Kohl’s stores.

Beginning in October the 10 stores will be the areas of Los Angeles and Chicago where can customers can walk into a Kohl’s location and go to the Amazon Smart Home section and purchase Amazon products.

Kohl’s says that there will be a dedicated 1,000-sq-foot space to provide customers a hands-on experience. The space will sell various types of Amazon products such as Amazon Echo, Amazon Fire TV, Fire tablets, and more. Most of the products are Alexa powered. The objective of the Smart Home section is to show how easily people can manage and modernize their homes for simple living aspects.

Customers can use the Amazon Smart Home services to schedule appointments for an Amazon expert to install devices and even local services professionals, who can help with tasks around the house such as cleaning or plumbing.

“We believe in the power of our store portfolio and know that our future as a best-in-class omnichannel retailer will be driven by how inventive, compelling and unique we can make our store experience,” said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief merchandising and customer officer. “Kohl’s and Amazon share a customer obsession and we’ve joined together to leverage each other’s strengths and deliver a great experience customers can only find at Kohl’s.”

This marks yet another retailer partnering up with Amazon. Recently, Sears teamed up with Amazon to sell Alexa enabled products in its locations. After Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods, Amazon products such as the Echo were being sold at the grocery store.

Kohl’s shares closed on Tuesday at $40.39 and opened on Wednesday at $41.44. Shares were above 5 percent early morning.
