Meet Pixel, Google’s Smartphone

On Tuesday, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) introduced their smartphone, Pixel. Google intends to assert itself as a strong smartphone competitor and compete with Apple’s iphone 7. Boasting a state of the art camera and runs with unlimited storage via google assistant (Google’s version of Siri).

Pixel was revealed at a press event in San Francisco including a few other devices such as their VR Daydream View headset and Google Home, voice-activated device used to play music or answer questions via Wi-Fi.

“Building hardware and software together will let us take full advantage of capabilities like the Google Assistant,” Rick Osterloh, head of Google’s hardware group, told the crowd. “This is a natural step and we’re in it for the long run.”

Pixel has a sleek aluminum body and utilizes pixel imprint, a quick finger recognition swipe to unlock your phone for quick access. With a price of $649 (Pixel) and $79 for the Daydream VR headset, the cost for the phone may be a bit steep.

“The goal is to build a personal Google for each and every individual,” said Sundar Pichai, Google’s chief executive.
