PIA jet Intercepted and Escorted by Fighter Jets due to Disruptive Passenger

An aircraft from Pakistan International Airlines (PIAA: KAR) (PIA) was escorted by fighter jets to Stansted airport northeast of London due to reports of a disruptive passenger, British law enforcement said. “This is not believed to be a hijack situation or terror matter,” Essex Police reported. “The plane is currently at the airport and officers are making enquiries.”

The Ministry of Defense claimed that Typhoon jets intercepted the aircraft that was on its way to London’s Heathrow Airport, and had escorted it to Stansted. “The authorities received an anonymous phone call and then followed standard operating procedure by diverting the plane,” said a PIA spokesman. “Security clearance is underway and the aircraft will be cleared soon afterwards. All passengers on board are safe.”

Although the details of the disruptive passenger were not disclosed, this may have not been a hijacking or terror related matter.
