Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a British luxury automaker owned by BMW (OTCMKTS:BMWYY), revealed its newest vehicle the Boat Tail, which it considers “the most ambitious motor car ever created.” The car is a convertible with a back deck that contains cocktail tables, fridges for champagne and a parasol matching the car’s color theme.
The Boat Tail has four seats and measures about 5.8 meters long. Though pricing has not yet been disclosed, there will only be three models of the vehicle available. The new design is brought forth as the automaker launches its new Coachbuild division, which allows its most loyal customers to commission custom cars.
“The ability to personalize almost every aspect of their motor car is one of the main reasons our patrons come to us. But we know some wish to go further still. In 2017, we stunned the world with our first fully coachbuilt motor car of the modern era, the spectacular Rolls-Royce Sweptail. This was, by definition, an entirely unique commission; but in our minds, it was the start of a journey,” said Rolls-Royce Chief Executive Officer, Torsten Müller-Ötvös.
Despite clients being able to customize their vehicles in the past, the Boat Tail contains no standard upholstery or gadgets. Ultimately, the entire manufacturing process was tailored by the Coachbuild department.
“We have formally re-established our Coachbuild department for those patrons who wish to go beyond the existing restraints, and explore the almost limitless possibilities this opens up for them. We are able to offer our customers the opportunity to create a motor car in which every single element is hand-built to their precise individual requirements, as befits our status as a true luxury house,” Müller-Ötvös said.
Coachbuild clients will be hand picked and must receive an invitation in order to participate in the experience. Rolls-Royce revealed that its next Coachbuild project was in the works, but has not disclosed any further details.
