Trump Threatens to Close U.S. Mexican Border

The caravan of immigrants has finally reached the United States border with Mexico and now President Donald Trump has pressed the Mexican Government to take action and remove the immigrants, preventing them from crossing over. On Monday, the President had even threatened to close the border between the two countries permanently should the situation not improve.

This threat comes after Sunday, when U.S. Border Agents had fired tear gas canisters at immigrants attempting to cross the border near Tijuana. Thankfully Trump’s authorization of lethal force was not used against the immigrants. Trump has mentioned shutting down the border before on Saturday when he tweeted

“Migrants at the Southern Border will not be allowed into the United States until their claims are individually approved in court. […] All will stay in Mexico. If for any reason it becomes necessary, we will CLOSE our Southern Border. There is no way that the United States will, after decades of abuse, put up with this costly and dangerous situation anymore!”

Now the President is calling on the Mexican Government to do the dirty work and keep the immigrants away from the border, lest they face further retaliation from the agents at the border. It also seems that the President and the Through all of this, the President has also used this as a talking point to fund construction of the border wall, one of his biggest campaign promises during the 2016 election.
