Students and teachers at Tennessee Virtual Academy (TNVA), and Tennessee
Virtual High School (TNVHS), will start the 2018-2019 school year on
August 1. Both schools are full-time, tuition-free online public schools
of Union County Public Schools open to students statewide. Open since
2011, TNVA serves students in grades K-8. TNVHS will launch this year
with grades 9 and 10, providing Tennessee families with a new choice in
public education.
Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by
state-certified teachers, TNVA and TNVHS provide students with a
personalized learning experience. Students take a full course load
across the core subjects of language arts, history, math and science,
and are offered electives in art and music. TNVHS will also offer a
variety of honors courses and electives including world languages,
health and wellness, and fine arts.
Students enroll in online school for a variety of reasons, including
advanced learning, a bullying-free environment, and the ability to
balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.

said Tammy Messlein, who enrolled her son Ben in the online school to
help manage his epilepsy and autism. “The virtual setting lets me play
an active role in his education, we receive incredible support from his
teachers, and he gets to connect with other students through his classes
and other activities.”
From live classes and one-on-one instruction to chat sessions and family
phone calls, dedicated teachers work in close partnership with parents
and students to support academic success. The online platform enables
students to enjoy a safe learning environment, and connects them with
classmates and teachers from across the state.
Throughout the year, TNVA and TNVHS foster a sense of community by
bringing students and staff together for in-person field trips,
community service opportunities and social events, and by organizing
virtual clubs around shared interests.
TNVA and TNVHS are accepting enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year.
