Walmart (NYSE: WMT) announced plans to hire approximately 40,000 seasonal and full-time workers for the upcoming holiday season. The move comes as the company revealed it is in a better staffing position as it heads into the holidays than it was the previous year.
As always, the retailer will first offer current workers the chance to pick up additional shits for additional pay. Walmart will be hiring in several departments, including seasonal store associates, customer service associates, and 1,500 full-time truck drivers.
“Whether an associate begins working at Walmart during the holidays or at another time of year, they can count on finding opportunity and benefits at every turn,” Walmart stated on its website.
According to the company, its entry-level associate is usually promoted to positions with better pay and more responsibilities in just seven months. Additionally, it revealed that 75% of their U.S. salaried management teams within stores, clubs, and supply chains all began their careers as hourly associates, including its CEO Doug McMillon.
“Whether an associate begins working at Walmart during the holidays or at another time of year, they can count on finding opportunity and benefits at every turn,” Walmart said.
Walmart says that over 50% of its seasonal U.S. staff members will transition to part-time or full-time roles in the new year.
